Sandra Lynn Davis. What an easy name. My maiden name was Tajcnar--easy to say “Tice-ner”, but difficult to spell. Born in Taber Alberta, I now live in a province called Saskatchewan--easy to draw, but once again, difficult to spell!

My Family

My husband Richard and I moved from Alberta to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan in 1998. And to farm! How's that for bucking the trend? We treasure our family time together with our three children (Samantha, Spencer, and Rachel), especially when it involves reading and swimming.

My Writing

As a school teacher and lifeguard, I always held a passion for teaching children. It was in my ten year span as an at-home mom, devouring stacks of story books with our children, that I began to write children's stories. I now have oodles of my own stories, which I must send to prospective publishers.

Hockey!

I learned about hockey by watching my favourite player - Spencer. In the winter of 2004, Hockey Day in Canada came to Shaunavon. I was invited to read my poem Hockey Day in Canada-A Celebration of the Game on CBC television. In 2006, I wrote a hockey song and video script for the CBC televised Kraft Hockeyville bid. This is quite amusing to my husband, as I originally didn't want to be involved in the sport. The fun continued when my son convinced me to play on the women's hockey team!

Christmas Musical

Once Rachel began Grade One, I returned to teaching school in the small community of Admiral, Saskatchewan. While there, I wrote the script and songs for my Christmas musical, Ho-Ho-Helping Santa. The musical was well received, and after a summer workshop with some members of the Saskatchewan Children's Writers' Round Robin and the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, I was ready to market it to other schools.

I made a professional CD of my sound track, with my own children and two others as the demonstration choir, and had the Saskatchewan Playwright Centre review my musical. Following a successful first year of sales, I added three extra songs and an optional Nativity scene so that more schools will find it suitable for their students and communities.
