Linda feels she had the best childhood in the world for someone who wanted to write historical fiction for kids. She lived in a teeny-tiny house on a teeny-tiny farm out in the middle of the Saskatchewan prairies. Some of things she remembers include: teaching herself to read by the light of candles and coal oil lamps; watching her mother use a washboard and heat irons on the wood-burning stove; tipping a pail on a long rope to get it to fill with water from the well, then pulling it up and carrying water to the house; helping bath her little brothers in a tin boiler; picking wild strawberries, raspberries, and saskatoons in the pasture; and being picked up for school in the wintertime by the neighbour's Bombardier. When she was a teenager, she decided to do everything in life at least once, and she thinks that will take her a few more years to accomplish. Visit Linda at her own website. |
